George Strait has ascended to the Top 5 on the country singles charts with his latest hit, "I Saw God Today." It debuted at No. 19 on the charts, marking the highest first-week numbers George has ever experienced. That's particularly amazing when you consider he's had more than 25 years of his own hits to compete with.
Obviously, the song is connecting with the audience, which doesn't surprise George. It had an impact on him, too.
"'I Saw God Today' is such a well-written song," he says. "It means a lot. Sometimes we take a lot of things for granted, especially anybody that's had a child. When they first see them — if they're in the delivery room or not — when they first see that child, it truly is a miracle, and you just realize that all of these things that God has given us ... sometimes you just take for granted. But if you just step back and take a look around, you'll see what beauty we have around us in the things that He's created for us."
George has another creation of his own to enjoy. "I Saw God Today" is the first single from his new album, titled Troubadour. It appears in stores tomorrow.
