Republican presidential candidate John McCain made an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show this week and the pair clashed over the issue of same sex marriages.
McCain says he is against gay marriages and believed that the “unique status of marriage” should only be between a man and a woman.
“And I know that we have a respectful disagreement on that issue,” he said.
DeGeneres announced her intentions of marrying longtime girlfriend Portia De Rossi last week after the California Supreme Court lifted a ban on same sex marriages.
“We are all the same people, all of us. You’re no different than I am. Our love is the same,” DeGeneres argued.
The talk show host and McCain smoothed things over with the presidential hopefully saying, “And I, along with many, many others, wish you every happiness,” McCain said.
“So, you’ll walk me down the aisle? Is that what you’re saying?” DeGeneres joked.
“Touche,” McCain said.
