The Pharcyde were by far one of the most influential of the early hip hop groups, noted for their eccentric, jazz-laden soundscape. And they certainly made their mark you can even call them seminal. But Tre' Hardson once known to the world as "Slimkid Tre'" -- left the group to pursue his own musical vision. The result is "Liberation," set for release on iMUSIC on September 10, 2002.
Related Videos:It's been quite a process for Tre', who began working on the album three years ago, fighting his way through personal demons to make the music he needed to make. The record may be representative of a personal struggle but ultimately it's a healing project, a catharsis for Tre', and hopefully an inspiration to those who have had similar experiences. "Liberation", 17 songs that range from introspective to exultant; 17 songs that document Tre's journey over the past years. Recorded primarily in Los Angeles, and partially produced by Tre', "Liberation" explores an expansive musical horizon that defies any temptation to stereotype. There is a theme to the record, though a positive message of self-reliance that runs throughout. Guest artists on "Liberation" include Saul Williams, Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, MC Lyte, and N'Dea Davenport, formerly of the Brand New Heavies. http://www.flyingbaboon.com/ http://www.thepharcyde.com/
