Like any recent Nas album the biggest problem is the beats. At times it's genius (Queens Get The Money, Sly Fox) but at times it's just plain boring. Normally Nas is great when doing concept songs but joints like "Fried Chicken" and "Project Roach" are just corny.

A few of the hooks are a bit too much as well but overall I'm feeling the productions and lyrically I think Nas is getting better and better. Making a strong political statement like "Sly Fox" is much harder than putting together a track like "Halftime".

While his albums will always be compared to Illmatic it's clear that Nas has moved forward when it comes to the content of his songs and I really like the direction he's taking. Now if we could only get some Premo beats....

Talked about himself a little too much to be taking on such weighted and controversial subject matter. "My chest still cut up like a bag o' dope". Who cares? Shoulda been talkin more about why his BACK is cut up by whips. And comparing us to roaches!? Yeah, thas exactly what I want white america to hear. He shoulda thought that one through a little more. Tracks 1, 2, 7, and 8....and a couple possibles, are dope. The rest is almost goofy. Too much R&B. Chris Brown why?! Yeah, where's Primo when you need 'em.

(and the good tracks are way too short...the wack ones are long as shit. Is "Hero" a gimmicky track or what?)

Hero has grown on me......that's one of the hotter tracks i've heard Polow produce.......with the exception of the Chris Brown/Game track, this album has better production and replay value than any Nas album since I Am

You think "I Am" is better than "Stillmatic" and "Lost Tapes" ??

i don't think of The Lost Tapes as a proper Nas album, and to me personally, now that they've both been out for a few years, i like them both about equally, i always felt like Stillmatic was overrated and that I Am was underrated

I guess I'm more critical of Stillmatic because it got shoved down my throat as the return of Nasty Nas, people forget now, but that shit was probably more hyped than The Carter III

I keep Sly Fox on repeat, myself. Realized today I know the whole song. Thas the thing: Showin potential like THAT on a track can actually hurt your album sometimes.

overall i like this album a few weak spots on the album though

but sum pure heat on this for sure, beats always lack for Nas but we all expect that by now haha

I'd place this somewhere in the middle of his releases

Conceptually this might be Nas' best album, a big step-up from Hiphop is Dead (which didn't live up to it's concept at all). Production is really boring though. So: 3/5, good.

I thought the production on this was his best since the Stillmatic album

I still haven't heard this, I'm a big fan of Nas' early work like everyone else but I just can't bother myself to actually listen to an albums worth of his bullshit over shit beats. The only post-IWW Nas album I can really enjoy front to back is the lost tapes. Stillmatic is one of the most overrated hiphop albums ever.

i liked the younger nas , but then i left him alone for a while... and just recently got the new one on boot ... but trully i think it is time someone came that hard and political .... cause that is my exact sentiments
