I hate Cage!

"Movies For The Blind" is hands down one of the ten worst albums I own and I have no idea why I haven't sold it yet (probably because Agent Orange is a good song). The Smut Peddlers album was garbage and I can't listen to Nighthawks or Weathermen without wanting to hit someone so when adds for "Hells Winter " bagan popping up picture me giving a damn I said "NEVER!".

I did download a copy though and to my surprise it's not bad at all... :o

The whole super wack drugs/gore thing he had going before is gone (I guess Necro got his wack style back) and Cage is adressing his demons instead of running away from them. The album is filled with introspective tracks from his childhood and youth years and it's refreshing to hear how he has grown over the years. The transformation from asshole to somewhat a nice guy is actually quite believable.

The beats are very typical DefJux so don't expect some sped-up soul samples here (yes!). Personally the production bugs me after a few listens and apart from Shadow & RjD2 all the beats are pretty damn boring.

Lyrically Cage stepped his game up though and like I said it's nice to hear him rap about something else than bitches and violence in that cartoon manner that he used before. His voice is hopeless though and to be quite honest he's a very mediocre MC.

In conclusion it's a very decent album from a very average rapper.

So far this is my album of the year, so I have to disagree. I think Cage is the first Jux rapper in a long time who hasn't sounded either totally awkward or completely incomprehensible over this style of production. I think a lot of the beats are amazing stuff, especially Shoot Frank and Hell's Winter, both of which are definite 5/5's for me.

I stop reading once you said you hate "Movies for the Blind"! Come on now, "Among the Sleep" is worth the price alone.

I tried to sell my copy of 'Movies for the Blind' but the used CD store didn't want it.

The production is way above average.

The El-P/Central Service joints are dope. Track 8, Perfect World, should have been SA Smashed. THe energy reminded me of them anyhow. Then again it was Central Services, so... maybe thats why.

Track 14, the title track, is on point. ILL!

Album: 3.75/5

I'm sure they've come up with them using complex algebraic equations.

I'mma give this a 4/5. Good Morning, Stripes, Subtle Art..., Lord Have Mercy, Hell's Winter all 4,5.
Shoot Frank, Grand Ol' Party Crash, Public Property all 4
Scenester 0,5 for the most annoying chorus I've heard in a while
The rest is around 3

"Movies For The Blind" is a shitty album if there ever was one. Cage doesn't even like it himself. He said it was the same three songs over and over and boy was he right.

I've been reading some interview with Cage about his new album and he actually comes off as a nice guy. He obviously matured a lot.

Cage is a guy ive always seen potential in but just never really did anything special...up until now. I always checked out the stuff he dropped years ago...and it kinda rubbed me the wrong way i dunno, some tracks i liked most i didnt. I also struggle to get into a lot of Def Jux stuff...off-beat flows on abstract beats that sound like people hitting pots and pans together just failed to capture me haha I do however, love the Perceptionists album, and i saw that Shadow and RJ were gonna produce some stuff and i figured this was at least worth a download. And to be honest, I was blown away. This is a VERY solid album from start to finish. Grand Ol' Party Crash is one of my favourite tracks of the year, if you pump that shit loud itll shatter your organs. Cage spits with about 3 times the maturity than on any of his previous release, recent ones included. The track with Daryl Palumbo is growing on me aswell, as i used to listen to Glassjaw back in the day its two worlds colliding in the one track. The lyrics, presence and flow of Cage have all been stepped up a notch and I reckon he's FINALLY consolidated himself as a strong, versatile emcee that actually has some shit to say other than the generic crap he, and plenty of others spit before. I wont give a rating cus i only got this a couple of days ago so im stil listening to it. But for me, its problyh one of the best albums of the year

I have been a huge Cage fan for as long as I can remember. Movies for the Blind is one of my favorite albums and this one is right up there with it. I've always enjoyed his flow and the production on all of his albums have always been on point. I just got this CD awhlie back but right now it is sitting at a solid 4/5...
