You only know about my life now. I wasn't always in asu, I did get a scholarship at my last college and I did work while I was in college in new york. Before that I lived in Puerto Rico and went to Military school. Before that I lived in Queens, and Before that I lived in manhattan. My father wasn't at this social status that he is now. Thats why I always feel it's important to discuss social injustices, inequalities and racism because I been exposed to it all. I been to the hoods of puerto rico and dominican republic. I have an international view on these issues. I don't always talk about it. Not on here at least. But I am aware of whats going on out there.
Hence, me talking about the struggle.

i'll tell you one struggle you never had to deal with, putting tight jeans on

It's THAT simple.

I'm gonna say this for the last time. I don't know who jay dee was. I knew the groups he produced. I grew up most of my youth in manhattan and queens. I spent most of my time in Harlem and Jamaica queens. During that time period, I listened to everything from juan luis guerra to SWV to Onyx.

Because I don't know Jay dee, Doesn't mean I don't know other hip hop artists or groups or that I am somehow fake.

Me and my friends we grew up listening to 2pac and bone thugs n harmony. We weren't analyzing hip hop like "wow this dude said some crazy shit", we were listening to hip hop because we could relate our struggle with hip hop.

We weren't so much concerned with hip hop as a music but as a music we could relate to, a music that could be a soundtrack to our lives. We were trying to "make it", we were trying to get the fuck out of a fucked up living situation, and once we do leave that fucked up living situation, we were trying to make sense of the world once we made it out of the "hood" and until this day, our struggle is to have a better life than what we had before.

My mind isn't on hip hop, hip hop has us in mind. I'm not here trying to be some groupie for hip hop like alot of these back packers, i'm about trying to progress and learn about bigger things than hip hop...There are bigger issues that hip hop touches on than just "Jay dee's verse on blank record".

In conclusion, Me and my generation from new york, we weren't hip hop because it was the cool thing to listen to, we were hip hop because it was ingraved into us from the day we came out the womb and saw violence and crime being a part of everyday reality. We were trying to make sense of this fucked up world, and hip hop was our escape, our education, and our drug. Now I no longer live in the "hood", My mind is focused on bigger issues and bigger things. It's called evolution...FOr me to still buy hip hop albums and analyze lyrics would be for me to go back to the age of 14. I am not 14 years old anymore, Hip hop is always gonna be special to me, but people move the fuck on.

so your telling me...your too old for hip hop...youve out growen it.... :| it doesnt relate to you cause you've moved on....look when you were 14 you didnt understand it, and you still dont now.....and if you were analyzing lyrics at 14 you would know who jay dee was....just cause bone thugs was the shit you use to smoke crack too doesnt mean you were hiphop........and you seeem to asume were all ignorant hiphop heads that listen to noting else...Ive got a record collection that spans every facet of sound there was and is and theres still more...I never acted like I knew music but to this day I analyze it to death.......

Your life sounds like an after-school special.

And on the real, reading liner notes is hip-hop. Old girl only knows the producer's name if they shouting it all over the radio single.

yeah on the real dominican, u say some real shit, and then u conclude with statements such as "move the fuck on" in reference to cats still listening to hip hop....that's not intelligent, that is emotional. how does listening to hip hop, analyzing lyrics, reading liner notes, or anything else associated with appreciating this form of music make it as though one os acting like a 14-year-old? there is no way u can make sense of that, so i don't even expect u to answer. another point is that u said analyzing lyrics FOR YOU would be to go back to the age of 14...key words being "for you". that sounds like a personal problem, and i am MORE than sure that for most others analyzing what someone said over a beat does not take them back to the age of 14. u tried to use how u feel an action would affect you as the grounds for how it will affect others, and that's not at all how it goes, thus your point was non-existent and no one who has common sense and read that would agree. i can feel u on not having known who a particular artist was, and even their influence...no one knows everything, BUT, when u try to make it like a cat who loves the fuck outta hip hop is displaying childish characteristics, u honestly just sound ignorant, or as tho u are willing to say anything to seem like u are better than another person. that shit is corny...my elders still listen to blues, funk, rock, old soul, AND hip hop....how does doing that equate to them being stuck in a childish state of mind? and i mean these older heads LOVE their music, so there is no difference between how some cats on here dig hip hop and how these older adults appreciate other forms of music, including hip hop. to me, it just seems like u have some good points and then promptly force me to take them as bullshit when u assume that someone loving an art form needs to grow the fuck up...ridiculous....and i seriously hope u can see what i'm saying and build with self on that, because that way of thinking is just faulty. i will have a college degree in less than a year, earned a scholarship out of high school to fund most of my education, have a daughter who will turn one soon, have lived on my own since 1998, grew up in the hood, never had a father, and have seen and experienced more shit i won't name....point being i am a grown man. so because i listen to, greatly appreciate, and hold in high regard many hop hop artists, that automatically makes me a child? think about your logic....i don't see it.
