Jaylib - Champion Sound

I was at the record release party, and the material that Madlib performed sounded kinda bland to me. It sounded like most of the production had moved from quirky and sample based to mainly deviating bass and drums, a real 'bounce' sound. I don't even know what tracks he did, so have no reference. Jaydee wasn't there so his performance was limited, and I have no idea what the majority of the rest of the album sounds like, as it might be completely different from my impressions. Opinions?

Dammit I had this album on my site's ftp for a week and a half for all my friends I didn't know anybody would want it here.

anyway i hate it. Boring as all fuuck imo and some of the lyrics are terrible.

I'm listening t it now and the beats are ill! Ok, the emceeing isn't wonderful but I don't care. This is a solid album.

i will give it a go, i only have some of their singles and it's cool because jaydee sticks to his signature sound... (ain't nothing wrong with that!) but madlib sometimes goes off in tangents... he's playing so much with everything else that i'm trying to keep up with him; he is still dope regardless.

i will comment more when i have give it a good listen.

Jay Dee's beats throughout are what mnake this release worth checking... Madlib comes good, but Dilla kills it... "Starz" is dope, as is the first 12" "The Red", and Percee P destroys "The Exclusive"...

Also, worth checking for all the collectors - Stones Throw have released an official limited white label promo only of cuts that aren't on the LP - "Raw Addict" / "Ice"... If you see it, grab it...

Yeah, that's true but Madlib does have some nice beats on it as well.

I heard 'The Red' - one of the best beats I've checked in a while. I was disappointed by Madlib on it though, I don't think he quite did it the justice it deserved. But I like their stuff a lot, and will try and get the album.

The album is alright, but I prefer the Jaylib vs Jrocc.. It's J-Rocc of the World Famous Beat Junkies mixing the best of J Dilla & Madlib's beats from recent years.

Half and half.
Some of it is very boring and some of it seriously dope.
Jay Dee's beats are better on the album than Madlibs.
Thats not to say this LP isnt better than allot of the dog shit out these days.
