Cet artiste est connu de tous pour être la pierre angulaire du groupe Quartier Latin de Koffi Olomidé, où il évolue depuis presque dix ans. Fally Ipupa est né en 1977 à Kinshasa (République Démocratique du Congo), capitale africaine de la musique. Comme bon nombre des jeunes de sa génération, la musique sera d’abord son hobby avant de s’imposer comme une priorité dans sa vie au point de prendre le pas sur ses études. Très tôt, il se découvre un don pour la chanson avec sa voix cristalline, bouleversante, prédisposée à la rumba et aux chansons langoureuses. Dès lors il ne vivra qu’à travers et pour la musique. Il débute ses classes musicales dans divers petits groupes de Kinshasa (RDC) au début des années 90. Avide de découvertes et de renouveau, il ne s’éternise pas dans ces groupes et passe de formations en formations, pour finalement trouver sa place au sein d’un orchestre bien nommé : Talents Latents. Avec ses nouveaux coéquipiers, il attire l’attention du public kinois, lors des concours des orchestres en herbe de la capitale. Après cet épisode, Fally Ipupa travaille son chant et finit par attirer l’attention de Koffi Olomidé, dont il intègre l’orchestre (Quartier Latin) à la fin des années 90. Le jeune homme y trouvera finalement sa place et il en deviendra un des piliers incontournables. Depuis près de 10 ans, Fally Ipupa conforte son art et exprime son talent au sein du « Quartier Latin » ; il maîtrise de mieux en mieux l’écriture au fil des albums du groupe. Avec « Eternellement » et « Ko ko ko », deux chansons majeures dont il est auteur/compositeur, Fally prend du galon et gagne en assurance jusqu’à occuper en dépit de son jeune âge, le poste de chef d’orchestre. Le public congolais qui affectionne les sobriquets et les superlatifs ne tardera pas à le surnommer ‘Dicaprio’ pour sa beauté, ‘Anelka, le transfert le plus cher’ pour sa valeur, ou encore ‘La merveille’ pour son talent. Fally est musicalement curieux et gourmand. Ses goûts musicaux vont du classique au Hip-Hop, parmi ses modèles se trouvent Marvin Gaye, Shaggy ou Craig David. Ses influences mariées à son talent en font un artiste hors du commun, qui rêve des sonorités nouvelles, des aspirations qui ne sont pas évidentes à concrétiser dans un groupe comme Quartier Latin. C’est dans un souci de liberté artistique que Fally s’engage dans le projet d’un album solo et personnel, qui lui ressemble et qui mêle sans mal l’expression de sa créativité à celle sa personnalité. Fally est le premier artiste congolais de sa génération à tenter l’aventure d’une carrière musicale bivalente, qui mêle innovation et tradition.
