Some clues present here, I think which are significant, Michael did not have his full outfit on for Thriller or Billie Jean the 2 of the most interesting performances (also lip-synching was evident) but he did have a full outfit for Smooth Criminal and he did not lip-synch ... the most detailed rehearsal by far (requiring an outfit) We should really be aware that Michael has faked his death - he is the Smooth Criminal who has made an obvious reference with the movie Gilda (he plays the same character who had faked his death in the movie) Do the math it's very easy the conclusion.
